I was working in a factory making boom-lifts in 1979 after moving to Indiana. At break time I would head out to the parking lot and smoke weed. The stench from the marijuana couldn’t be detected as the smell of fiberglass and it’s resin overpowered any other smells in the plant. I saw ‘Debby’ show up at lunchtime every day and take off with three guys I was getting to know, and one day they invited me to tag along.

We drove for about four miles and one of them ran in a pharmacy and came out with a half gallon of peppermint schnapps which we all guzzled on the way back to work. This became routine and after about a week I got a bright idea to indite a poem for her. It was “Love American Style” for the first couple of years then became “A Nightmare on Elm Street” when I realized she was sticking it to me worst than caramel sticks to the roof of your mouth.
