Three days in sixty-eight years, tough choice.
{The why’s are highlighted.}
Even leaving the daily at one I would find this tough. I thought about tossing Esther’s challenge in the mix which could easily heat up the answer but…
I guess the first one that comes to mind would be from 1991/92, don’t remember the exact date but the experience was unforgettable. I overcame one of my biggest fears by stepping out of an airplane at 3000′. Scared shitless I was until my chute was fully opened, then a beautiful peaceness overcame me as I floated down to earth. I missed the target landing from about a mile because the instructor kept telling on a one-way speaker in my helmet to watch out for a fence I couldn’t see, so I steered myself into an open field. I wanted to go again but the wind had picked up to much so they shut down for safety reasons and I just never tried again.

2 – July 4th, 1996 This date has been burned into my mind. I finished the work week on the 2nd and having the next four days off, I make the bad choice of going on a three day mind bender. I started out the evening by getting a six pack and making two strawberry pies for our family reunion on the fourth and needing to make a peach cobbler for my sister.{(Never got to that}
I went to the American Legion meeting up with my boss and some other friends and family. After they all have the common sense to quit and go home I hooked up with some other friends and took {catching a buzz} to the professional level. I closed the bar, partied all night and opened the bars the next day. On July 4th at 12:10 am I was standing in my living room while a friend was searching through my music collection for something to listen to. He had a guy with him I didn’t know and he was across the room from me. He picked up my thirty-eight and said he was going to shoot me so I pulled my .357 out and as I brought it up to fire I hit the hair trigger and shot myself in the knee.
The docs at the ER kept talking about cutting my leg at the knee and I wasn’t having any of that shit, let me tell ya. A doc was walking by and came over to reassure me he would save my leg. The result was a year on my back but 96% of movement remains today.

One happy memory and one unforgettable nightmare that I hold dearly in my heart for different reasons. The third?
