A Pre Holiday Post

Since WP let me I went for it.

Daily writing prompt
Describe what Freedom means to you.

I wasn't feeling the prior prompt for today
So I changed it, do you think that will be okay ?
Asking a question that required more thought
And maybe helping me to thicken the plot
This little limerick starts today's post that way

My second tattoo was a back alley one that was a simple design, a marijuana leaf with the word Freedom below it. That was done in 1973 and it was a symbol of rebellion against the establishment. Back when no one thought about the health benefits of this amazing plant but enjoyed the illegal high it provided.

Freedom has so many restrictions applied to it that is almost non existent except in dreams and fantasy. People have been programmed to accept what governments say are the rules we must follow but at what point do we say enough is enough and decide that we will do something against their law to feel freedom inside.

If we want to do something that doesn’t harm others why can’t we? The worlds top leaders do what they want including things that not only harm people but kill them in masses too, and they do it in the name of freedom.

I want the freedom of being taxed only once on the money I earned and spent instead of paying taxes when I receive it and again every time I spend it. Why does the government abuse the tax structure and still complain it is broke? This is their vision of freedom not mine.

The United States will be celebrating our freedom this weekend and I sit here thinking are we really free? Next week will find us still in a warring conflict that most don’t want, inflation will still restrict our freedom to be comfortable without being swamped in debt and more laws will be considered on how to take advantage of the poor and profit the already top 1%ers.

We all have our own ideas of freedom and while I wish this country Happy Birthday I still wonder why we call it the land of the free and home of the brave. In these confusing times freedom is not being free.
