1982 found me in a time of life where a switch was desperately needed. I had walked into the PepsiCo warehouse holding a bottle of Coca-Cola, oops. The plant manager saw me and fired me on the spot. I knew better but being hung-over, I wasn’t thinking clearly.

A real good friend had been fired about two months earlier for insubordination and had went to work for his mom and dad in Missouri. He kept in contact with me and after hearing I had been fired he jokingly told he parents about it.
His dad, a total stranger offered me a job, teaching me how to drive semi which I was very grateful for. I discussed it with my [at the time] wife and we decided I should head down there from Indiana to take the job offer while she remained in Ft. Wayne.

We had been married under a year and I wish I would have gotten a divorce before I left as it would have saved me years of grief. A do over or mulligan could have made life so much different for me.
In those days we didn’t have cell phones so when I got lost going into Manhattan I had to pull over and read my Rand McNally road atlas to get directions that’s right, no GPS. In those days you made a call on pay phones as we didn’t have the luxury of mobile deceives or the headaches of living on a small screen.
