Word Origin
American English, early 20th century

Last fall I was heading to the local dispensary and noticed a new coffee shop next door named the “Burnt Pot”. Intrigued I pulled around to the back parking lot and was surprised to see a valet waiting to park my car.
As I began to walk around to the front door I happened across a hot dog vendor. I didn’t pay any attention to her until on the way back out. With a new variety of bud to enjoy and a fresh cup of carry-out joe in my hands I paused to read her menu.
At the bottom of the menu board she had written a limerick to showcase her wares. The verse was funny but didn’t apply to any of her food, it was total hokum but worked very well catching the eye of an old stoner like me. I bought a dozen dogs to go before asking her name, She told me it was Francine, laughing I asked her for a date. The rest is history.
