When I was a young pup I was taught to be complaisant and go to bed and rise in the morning according to my parents wishes. After years of following this ritual I woke up one day with a tingle in my right arm from sleeping on it wrong or too long, I’m not sure which.

At breakfast that morning, I was sitting at the kitchen table when dad said to hurry up with breakfast, He didn’t understand what the hell I was thinking eating so slow saying, others do it faster so they can get on with their day.

I sit here in this small cafe drinking my coffee years later, thinking if I had a handful of dimes for every time he told me that I could easily tip every waitress who refilled my cup in life. In retirement I sit here with a smile on my face knowing I currently go to bed and wake up whenever the urge hits me.
