My favorite pair of shoes were a pair of Beatle boots I received for a birthday present back in the 60s. They were too damn cool and the rage of the day. I was so excited to get them I couldn’t wait to wear them.
Yes I put those slick boots on and promptly fell on my ass as soon as I stepped outside on my birthday. I didn’t wear them too often as I didn’t want to tear them up in everyday use but would have them shining and ready for church on Sunday, you bet.
Later that spring I was out playing and an ambulance came flying up our street and of course all us kids chased it to see what was happening. It stopped about a block from our house and to my surprise my brother was being loaded into the back of it.
He had been cutting grass as we did for extra money as kids. He was trying to cut a small hill by holding the mover and going downhill. He slipped and his right foot went under the mower and took his first three toes off. I ran home to let Mom and Dad know so they could be at the hospital with him.
It was when we got to the hospital that I found out he was wearing my favorite shoes to cut the damn grass!!! You bet I was pissed off and he caught hell about those shoes until his death over 40 years later.
Those shoes never got to take me anywhere but to church but left everlasting impressions on the whole family.
I still love ya bro but Damn! those boots were the shit lol.
