Why Letting Go of Self-Doubt Matters

Daily writing prompt
What emotion would you be better off without, why?

Yes, I’ve altered the prompt again. Why…because I can.

Self-doubt is a powerful emotion that can stop us from doing even the smallest of things.

This comes from out of the blue and leaves you in a deep funk of emotions, feelings of not being good enough for any endeavor that you try and make. Even the smallest amount of doubt grows into a whirlwind of twin tornado’s wrecking havoc on the mind.

Self-doubt can and will destroy a persons mindset of what they are worth as a whole and if let alone long enough can change a good hearted persons outlook of life into a struggling and losing battle of self worth.

Most people [me included] let self doubt overtake them in the quiet moments when no one is around to talk to and then no longer trust themselves to speak about it out loud leaving more room for it to stabilize and grow confusing them all the more.

Self doubt will cause you to overload on stress which in turn harms the body as well as the mind. This mind numbing emotion also carries little seeds of other emotions with it and if given the time will sow those emotions into the mix bringing depression along for the ride.

Before this train can derail there is a shimmering of light sneaking up from behind and soon the emotion can be replaced with joy. This is an emotion that I hope everybody can indulge in today. Joy, the absolute best emotion for destroying the sadness of self doubt.

Have a blessed Black Friday my friends and listen to this before going out into the madness.

  1. Great post about self doubt Ernie. I think we all struggle with that one. I myself, am a worrier. Have a great evening and enjoy your weekend. 😊

  2. One of the reasons I didn’t change jobs as often as I should have was that good ol’ Catholic guilt made me doubt myself when I’d sit down to write a resume. As a result, I would put it off all the time until I absolutely had no other choice, and I always looked a lot worse than I was.

    1. That Catholic guilt was a MF’er. Glad it’s behind me.

This is a great post. I can definitely relate to the struggle with self-doubt and how it can overwhelm you when you’re alone with your thoughts. It’s important to recognize it early and remember that joy is always within reach to help shift our mindset. Thank you for sharing this reminder.

    Perfect Song for this post.

Oh, I like your tweak much better than I like mine :-) I don’t know if I would let go of self doubt because it protects me from getting overly confident. But I do agree it’s definitely important to have everything in moderation. Have a great day.
