She Wasn’t Ready

I Can Park Here

I changed the title of this post as it was confusing.

Shortly after Sammy Hager came out with “I can’t drive 55” (1984), I was crossing the country headed to who the hell remembers and dusk was coming on so I figure why not find a nesting spot, drink some refreshing drunkenness and camp out in the motel I dragged around with me.

I was just outside Springfield Missouri and got lucky enough to spot a strip club with a massive parking lot. So as any good alcoholic would do, I whip my 48 footer in and found plenty of space to park for the night.

I walk in, pay my cover and let my eyes adjust to the darkness. I see a young redheaded country girl trying to get someone to pay attention to her and about a dozen or so country boys sitting around laughing and joking, not really into the dancer. The DJ was playing top forty country hits and this place looked dead.

A Storm Brewing

I order a beer and ease on over to the DJ and start chatting him up about what was happening in the area and the bar. After a couple of beers I slid him a twenty and the Sammy Hagar cassette asking him to play the first song on side two. I found a table to sit at and waited.

It didn’t take that DJ long to put headphones on and give it a listen. I figured no way in hell but hoped anyway. I seen a grin take over his face and I knew it was on.

The storm hit full force within three or four notes of “Dick in the Dirt” a hard rocking nasty tune I still enjoy. (The video can be found at the bottom of this post). The dancer just stopped and looked at the DJ and the crowd went totally silent, me? I sitting there with my beer wearing a cheesy ass grin and holding a ten spot towards the dancer. Damn, it was funny stuff watching that dancer , knowing she wasn’t a trained dancer as she had no clue how to dance to Sammy’s hard rock.

I tipped her anyway and had a great time that night. The music went back to country and the dancing continued but the rest of those beauty’s kept giving me weary glances.

Back in 84′ I was full of piss and vinegar and lived to have fun and cause mischief. My life’s motto has always been best said by Hunter Thompson,

And what a ride it is!
