It’s a Real Thing

Edible Overdose

I wasn’t going to write a post today after I did my weekly Rhyme Time but after scanning the internet “News” I seen an article about overdosing on medicinal edibles made out of our favorite God given plant marijuana.

Since I am an advocate of making this plant completely legal I felt a response was not only “mandatory but also essential in promoting awareness and understanding.”

I have been using this plant for enjoyment since 1974 and people before me have done so forever. They have also used this plant for medicinal purposes for longer than any “official idiot in office” has cared to investigate.

Laws were put in place because of the paranoid beliefs of one A.J. Anslinger who put laws into effect where no one could do research on the properties and benefits of marijuana. When doing this he also grabbed patients and made a movie “Reefer Madness” , this movie tried to convey the image of going insane immediately after inhaling “marihuana”. What they showed turned it into a comedy instead. This was all done in 1937!

The Time They are a Changin’

The sixties brought forth a awakening among younger adults who discovered that not only was the information total bullshit but this plant brought enjoyment and a peaceful feeling along with it when used responsibly. This half of the “Boomer ” generation was a rebellious sort who questioned the answers given by our government on everything from a unjust involvement in Vietnam to the legality of marijuana laws.

In 1972 a program was started to make people more aware of the plant and the unjust laws that came with it. NORML.org has steadily grown since then and has helped reverse these outdated laws and bring forth much needed positive information to the public. Check them out at the link above.

The Overdose Process

Yes, I have overdosed on edible’s more than once but guess what, I didn’t go any more insane than I already am and after the “trip” was over the only lasting effect was a hangover feeling and not as bad as a hangover from the man made poison alcohol. Don’t misunderstand me, I drank most of my life. I’m just comparing the effects of the two.

On a bad overdose of edibles I had tremendous energy and when I would try and lie down I had to get right back up, closing my eyes was not done for long as the only vision I would have were images of huge marijuana plants dancing across my field of vison.

Throw some dry heaves into the mix and you will understand that those brownies you made are damn tasty but the distribution of THC in the mix didn’t spread evenly and while your buddy claims he didn’t feel anything, you on the other hand got the “loaded brownie” and most of the THC in the batch.

Buy them from a dispensary and you will get a even amount of THC in every piece be it brownies or gummies but remember this one important fact: No matter how sweet and delicious they might seem when eating them, they are LOADED! So eat them in moderation and there will be no problem with overdosing. Wait about 45 minutes to an hour and check out the effects it has and adjust accordingly. I also had posted a report on this earlier in the month, if you want to check it out “go here”

So it boils down to this: Older adults “Boomers” or anyone really that are new to the world of edibles remember that moderation is key. To all the stoners out there, same thing but have fun!

  1. Ernie, I worked with substance users for years, and I can say with certainty that nobody under the age of 26 should be using marijuana or any other substance. I have cared for many young people who became psychotic from using potent marijuana and other substances. It’s real, and it’s been confirmed by researchers. Potent marijuana causes brain damage in people under the age of 26 because the young person’s brain has not fully developed. I agree that marijuana has medical purposes and should be legal for medical purposes.

    1. I totally agree that age makes a big difference. My posts are directed more to folks my age as there are many that are trying edibles for the first time and don’t realize the sugar coating is harmful.

  3. The last time I jumped the gun at 45 minutes, ate a second brownie and then fifteen minutes later felt the first one start to come on, I had the opposite experience ~ me and the couch became b-e-e-e-st buddies! I’m thinking you ate too much Sativa and I ate too much Indica…

    1. That sounds about right, I tripped hard but want the uneducated to be aware. Sounds like an increasing problem in people our age.

  4. Well said. I’ve been taking indica edibles for about 4 years now to help with my insomnia (25+ years now) and it does. Helps keep relax and rest. They do cause some pretty big munchies otherwise no issues.

Like you said I occasionally take a little too much but no harm or foul other than tripping balls for a bit and waking with a mild hangover the heat day.
