The Big Screen Presents

Once inside the movie house or having a grip on the firestick grab some popcorn and goobers, settle in and enjoy the movies that showcased 1974.
The Lords of Flatbush – Set in the 1950s with mostly unknown actors “Sly Stallone and Henry Winkler” who starred as Butchey Weinstein later on to upgrade to “Fonzie”
Chinatown – Faye Dunaway and Jack Nicolson bring great performances together in this classic film. Roman Polanski disregarded the original script by Robert Towne in which Faye Dunaway’s character doesn’t die.
Blazing Saddles – This classic comedy brought out the best of both Clevon Little and Gene Wilder. Written by Mel Brooks with help from Normon Steinburg and Richard Pryor it is a dark, funny satire that would probably be unacceptable in today’s marsh mellow feeling everything offensive society.
The Boob Tube Debuts

This is firestick at it’s best or cable if that’s still a thing.
Chico and the Man – Freddie Prinz found a home with this TV comedy that was originally was to star Cheech and Chong. While listening to Billy Joel he sings of Freddie heading to L.A. to become a star.
The Rockford Files – James Garner brought life to this Detective drama. He played the role in a more relaxed attitude and attire than other shows of the time. This show aired for six years.
Happy Days – 11 seasons of Ritchie Cunningham growing up with “The Fonz” This show changed a generation with it’s zany situations and great cast.
The Vinyl Spinning

Diamond Dogs – Written and produced by David Bowie it is his eight album and provided hits such as “Rebel Rebel” and “Diamond Dogs”. This was his final “Glam” record and was followed by “Young Americans”
KISS – Self titled their album debut in 1974 and this shock rock band with make-up and their fire breathing stage preference took the world by storm 20 albums later are they done? Who can say as they have retired many times.
Steely Dan – Pretzel Logic found release in 1974 bringing us “Ricki Don’t Lose That Number” and “Any Major Dude Will Tell You” along with the title track “Pretzel Logic”. The 3rd album released by this unique duo.
3 x3 brings this short review to a end, just rambling about one of my favorite years in this journey.
until next time =
