Memories in Time

It was my option to climb aboard a fishing vessel in 1994. I was working as an independent contractor for Tyson Foods at the dry docks in Tacoma Washington at the time. After the last ship was repaired and ready to sail I was offered a position on the ship as a factory worker. I jumped at the chance.

Now, I ought to tell you upfront that I had never been on the open ocean before outside of walking in off of a beach so I was hesitant about how to surmount sea sickness but other than that was super excited to get out on the ocean.

After travelling to the legal limits, 200 nautical miles off shore, we fished off the China coast for pollack and after filling the freezers headed back to Dutch Harbor, Alaska where we would empty out, re-fuel and head back out. This was the hardest job I have ever tried to tackle, the highest paid job I ever had and the farthest from home I’ve ever been.

The original plan was to take the money form working the dry docks and head south to Cali. That plan changed and I ended up buying a cherry 76′ Ranchero and travelling back across country in it.

Holding the Line

After a sloppy first three quarter’s yesterday Alabama turned the tide and rolled to an impressive comeback win, Down 17 – 13 at the half with 2 turnovers we regrouped late in the third. The final score was 45 – 17. We totally shut them down in the second half. After seeing Oregon and Ohio State fall from grace (Ohio being upset by Texas) We should make it into the top ten rankings this week. ROLL TIDE BABY!
