Cry Like a Baby

I’m staring at this while coming to life this morning and know the right answer but still…

Daily writing prompt
What would you do if you lost all your possessions?

The logical answer would be to dust yourself off and start again but it isn’t always so easy as that.

First off you have to get through the worrying about what you’re going to do followed closely by the depression that sets in deeply. Left with nowhere to live or with no means of transportation or communication you have decisions to make ensuring your survival.

Sure, you might think about leaning on others for support but you find that they aren’t so concerned for you as you thought they would be. I’ve never looked for charity probably because of pride getting in the way but more of the fact that it stings worse than a hornet on a angry day when people you have helped in the past turn their backs on you.

Walk away.

Fighting through the feelings of loneliness and despair is the first hurdle of many you face in this. I have slept under interstate bridges while hitchhiking across this country to start over with only the clothes on my back, picking up change alongside the highway while walking collecting enough for a meal if I was lucky.

Turn to crime?

I admit nothing here but it could be a short term solution to get back on your feet. Collecting enough money for a motel room in some cheap dive for a couple of days is a start. If you can accomplish this you have started on a new road of redemption. There are many temp job companies in any big town that offer daily pay so by working hard for enough cash on a daily basis pays for another nights rent and hopefully a meal or a bottle to help ease the pain.

Thrift stores galore

While hoping to land a full time job through temp work you scrimp and save every penny you can but let’s face it, sitting in a motel room when not working gets mighty old mighty quick. I went to the thrift stores and started buying small things I felt were needed slowly acquiring new possessions. Offering your skills for barter can help in many ways too. I have traded labor for a vehicle and in turn that helped me find a better job which afforded me the chance to get an apartment, fill it with stuff and make new friends.

So, as I stated in the beginning of this

The logical answer would be to dust yourself off and start again
