Toe & Heel

Daily writing prompt
Describe a phase in life that was difficult to say goodbye to.

This is actually a fresh prompt for me, I don’t remember seeing this before.

I talked to my cousin recently and he told me his Motorcycle was up for sale as his knees were paying a heavy toll from the years. I understood this with sympathy and understanding, as I too had to make this decision a couple of years ago because of my balance.

Giving up something that has brought joy, peace, comfort and love over a lifetime is hard to do. I still miss the comfort of the wind flowing across me as I peacefully laid back and rode in serenity on some two lane back road anywhere USA.

The love for feeling totally at peace with enough power in your right hand to make music in tunnels or the thrill of leaning into a curve at high speed are only a couple of reasons to mourn this parting of ways in life.

I learned how to ride on a chopped out 67′ Triumph Bonneville with a girder that stretched to hell and a coffin gas tank that I bought from my cuz Danny. So here is a BIG HUGE shout out of ‘Thank You Cuz’ for introducing me to pure love.

From being dogged for riding a Honda to being dogged for wearing a patch I endured the bullshit of comments from different social circles of the community with pride.

As with any true love affair riding had it’s ups and downs. True, the downs were frustrating and sore when they happened but the ups outweighed them and that to me was worth the ride.

Two of the worst arguments I was involved with left me pretty banged up. The first one had me t-boned from a car speeding into the street from an alley. The second one was me being way to drunk to walk but hey, guess what… I could still sit on my ass and turn that throttle. I totaled that bike on my way home one night. It ended up costing me dearly with both a busted up body and bank account. Both of these misunderstandings between me and my metal horse happened in South Carolina.

The fun times have always overrode the bad in this love affair and given the opportunity I wouldn’t mind having a fling every once in awhile in the future.
