I received this amazing book from Willie Torres Jr. as a gift and after reading it I wanted to share my opinion with you.
Willie is a devout Christian who has dealt with life’s turmoil on his terms and accepted Christ as his savor and guiding light to help him walk through life’s crazy moments.
With his first book ‘The Latter Times of Being Crazy for Christ” Willie showed us a light in the world of darkness. βItβs not about becoming a Christian; itβs about becoming the son of God, about spending time with himβ
In his second book Willie offers us another unique perspective on putting God first. Weaving together the worlds of religion and sports Willie brings new visions of hope and peace to his readers through antidotes mixed with humor, love and reflection.
Loyalty to our favorite team is fleeting, strong when they are on a winning streak and dawg cussing them when they are not. How many times have you done this when talking to our Lord. I sadly have been guilty of doing this through the years myself.
Willie brings out reflections of similarity’s of the importance of our faith in both God and our favorite sportsman. He teaches us to have positive reactions with both instead of leaving God on the back burner in life. “It is not about imposing your faith upon others, but rather creating an environment where everyone feels comfortable”. This is a very important lesson he brings across.
Highlighting athletes who are not afraid to show their love of our Lord Willie shows how religion and sports can intertwine with grace and without saying it had me reflecting on ‘superstars’ who were in the game just for the money. They don’t seem to stick around for long.
Take Me Out With the Crowd is a must read for sports fans who do or don’t struggle with faith. It can and will have you reflecting on your own inner beliefs. Thank you Willie for the gift and another great book.
