Looking Back

I awoke and looked into the mirror today
Seeing an old man where I used to stay
Paunchy gut, grey hair and wrinkles under my eyes
These things might make another man cry
But the old man that was staring back at me
Made me realize how happy I should be

Stab wounds and gunshots, a total social disease
These things happened to the man staring back at me
Not all life is bad, some is truly grand
Look into your heart and you will understand
Trivial things do not matter as time passes by
Anger ceases to exist when on life your high

Days turn brighter as spring comes back into my life
And without noticing happiness replaces strife
Lilacs bloom a memory from when I was small
And all of a sudden I have no worries at all
I think of days past when life's path spread wide for all to see And glance in the mirror at the man grinning back at me
